Mining Engineering Department students had the opportunity to examine field applications on-site as part of technical trips to important underground mining operations in our country on November 19-20.

On November 19th, the students visited the underground coal mine of Demir Export A.Ş. in Manisa/Soma, one of Turkey’s most important lignite basins. Students had the chance to observe production methods, ventilation and transportation systems, and support applications used in underground mining on-site. We would like to thank Eren Elmaderesi for his support in organizing this trip, and Sefa Çoban and Özgür Yıldırım for guiding the students on-site.

On the second day of the technical trip program, November 20th, the students visited the underground lead-zinc mine of Esan Eczacıbaşı Endüstriyel Hammaddeler A.Ş. in Balıkesir/Balya. Students gained valuable insights by closely examining underground production techniques and operational processes applied in metal mines. We would like to express our gratitude to Fatma Binler for her support in organizing this trip, and to Mehmet Can Karacan, Nuri Eral, and Münevver Nur Latif for accompanying the students in the field.

During both visits, the ore processing and enrichment facilities were toured with the guidance of shift engineers, and the processes the ore undergoes from production to the final stage were examined in detail. Upper-class students had the opportunity to reinforce their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting and enhance their professional experience.
